Selected Reviews
“Fountain of Time, an immensely appealing album that illuminates much of what the CCCC is all about: nurturing new ideas in concert music… From the mystical opening pages of Shulamit Ran’s “Grand Rounds” to the instrumental sensuality of Anthony Cheung’s “Double Allegories,” from the exquisitely detailed tone painting of David Dzubay’s “PHO” to the subtle textural shifts of Tonia Ko’s “Simple Fuel,” the recording attests to the stylistic breadth the CCCC seeks to foster. It also documents the Grossman Ensemble’s high performance caliber, established during its first performance, in December 2018.”
Howard Reich, Chicago Tribune, November 2020
“But the record rewards repeat listenings…Anthony Cheung’s sinuous, often ambiguous three-movement work, Double Allegories, is similarly intoxicating.”
Hannah Edgar, Chicago Reader, August 2020
“For your adventure of the month, take a ride on Fountain of Time's five world premieres from the first two seasons of the Chicago Center for Contemporary Composition's Grossman Ensemble…I was equally taken by Anthony Cheung's Double Allegories, whose three sections explore "...of touch/heat," " ...of solitude/ winter," and "...of breath/air." Note how the final section ends by simply letting go.”
